i <br /> ttommttt t . ot~t: <br /> viconn 1 nib than Qommt.tta <br /> The August 13, 2001 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee was called to order by its <br /> Chairperson, Council Member James Aranowski at 4:15 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting <br /> Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer, Kelly, King, and Varner; <br /> Lonnie Douglas, Todd Zeiger, Bill Hoye, Thomas Bodnar, Nancy Sulok of the iOnt r[ <br /> tttbnn ,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Aranowski noted that the purpose of the Committee meeting was to review Bill <br /> No. 62-01 which would appropriate $ 8,640 in donated funds from the Human Rights Federal <br /> Fund(#258) to pay excess expenses of Human Rights Awareness Awards Banquet. <br /> Lonnie Douglas, Director of Human Rights made the presentation. Mr. Douglas stated that for the <br /> past eleven (11) years Human Rights has had education outreach. This year's Human Rights <br /> Awards Banquet had $ 2,000 in the budget and $ 8,640 was raised in private contributions from <br /> the community. <br /> Council Member King inquired about the total cost of the banquet. <br /> Mr. Douglas stated that the total cost was $ 13,233.58. $ 12,290 was raised in calendar year <br /> 2000, and $ 9,771.00 was spent. One of the speaker honorariums was $5,000, plus costs. There <br /> was also a facilitator from Ohio who was paid to provide a training seminar addressing "predatory <br /> lending". <br /> Council Member King inquired about the total attendance. Mr. Douglas stated that 62 people were <br /> present.2 <br /> Dr. Varner suggested that this type of information addressing contributions received, budgeted <br /> dollars, costs of speakers,attendance,etc. be routinely provided each year. <br /> Mr. Douglas stated that he would be happy to provide such information. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Varner made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> King that Bill No. 62-01 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> Under miscellaneous business, Council Member Aranowski noted that the Committee meeting <br /> schedule for the 2002 Operating Budget should be in everyone's Council mail boxes. He noted <br /> that the hearings will begin on Tuesday, August 28th at 3:00 pm with a City-wide overview and <br /> continue through September 12th with each scheduled day's Committee meetings beginning at 3:00 <br /> p.m. <br /> Council Attorney Note: Mr. Douglas corrected the attendance figure during his presentation on Bill No. 62-01 at the South <br /> Bend Common Council meeting of August 13,2001. He noted that he had misread the figure during the committee meeting <br /> and that the correct number was 138 people in attendance. <br />
