A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGING AND HONORING JOHN ADAMS
HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR ANGEL THOMAS FOR HER SUCCESS IN THE 2023 GIRLS
STATE INDOOR TRACK MEET
Oreiwta4 the phrase"fast woman"has historically had different meanings, not all of them
complimentary; and
0ie in the case of John Adams High School Senior track athlete Angel Thomas, "fast woman"
has only one meaning and it is very complimentary; and
OfiCa.etal on March 25,2023,Angel used the Girls State Indoor Track Meet to become Adams first
individual Girls Indoor Track champion by winning the Girls 60 Meter Dash in 7.62 seconds, the
fastest time by a high school girl in Indiana this year; and
C,� Angel also competed in the 100 Meter Dash, finishing fourth with an Adams school
record time of 11.91 seconds; and
L� fe+w,, Angel is not satisfied with these accomplishments,but uses them to set her goals for the
2023 outdoor season; and
L,� those goals include breaking the 200-meter record for Adams High School, along with the
record for long jump, and bringing home state championships in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Section I.The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, publicly acknowledges and
honors Angel Thomas for her athletic accomplishments, including a state championship in the 60-
meter dash.
Section II.The Council also wishes Angel the best of luck in accomplishing her remaining goals in
the 2023 outdoor season.
Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the
Council and approval by the Mayor.
