The January 8, 2001 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee was called to order by its
Chairperson Council Member James Aranowski at 5:08 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting
Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer, King, Varner, Ujdak, and
Kirsits, Isabelle Gonzalez, Citizen Member; Ken Fedder, Dennis Freeland, Terry Bland of the
*QUO Oatti trittunt,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney.
Council Member Aranowski noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 01-2
which is an inducement resolution for Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. Project for 1805
Western Avenue and 1904-1906 Ireland Road.
Attorney Ken Fedder introduced Mr. Dennis Freeland of Goodwill Industries to the Committee.
Mr. Fedder noted that there would be no personal liability by the City of South Bend or its officers
if this matter would be approved. He noted that the project would be approximately $ 16 million.
Construction on Western Avenue should begin in March and the Ireland Road operation should be
open by June of 2001.
Following discussion, Council Member King made a motion, seconded by Council Member
Varner that Bill No. 01-2 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Ujdak adjourned
the meeting at 5:20 p.m.
