SUBJECT: Budget Request – Miami Street
Pedestrian Refuge Islands

*Funds are subject to the City Controller's determination of availability; if funds are unavailable, as solely determined by the City Controller,
then the authorization of the expenditure of such funds shall be void and of no effect.
Purpose of Request:
Staff requests approval of $150,000 from the South Side Redevelopment Area TIF for addition
of Miami Street pedestrian refuge islands at both Clayton Drive and Byron Drive. Project
construction is planned for completion this year in anticipation of a new 3 lane Miami Street
configuration between Donmoyer Avenue and Ireland Road. The refuge islands will better
connect the sidewalk network along a segment of Miami Street that is lacking safe crossings.
The request for funds is consistent with the Miami Hills Neighborhood Plan (2020) that
identified upgrading infrastructure conditions and improving connections for non-motorized
travel within the neighborhood and surroundings.
