The July 10, 2000 meeting of the Health and Public Safety Committee was called to order
by its Chairperson, Council Member James Aranowski at 4:30 pm in the Council Informal
Meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer,Kelly,King, Ujdak,
Coleman, Kirsits, and White; Bernie Kish, Jack Colwell of the '4111 I3 UD lErthun , and
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney.
Council Member Aranowski noted that the purpose of the Committee meeting was to
receive an update from Bernie Kish on the College Football Hall of Fame.
Mr. Kish provided information in six(6) basic areas:
1. Attendance The annual projection is 75,000. 26,700 has been projected with 26,454
actual.
2. Press Box Currently they are$ 18,000 ahead of projections.
3. Special Events There are a multitude of special events which include the Coach's Clinic
each February; Legends Luncheons for the past four (4) years; and Irish
Youth Soccer which has a spaghetti dinner at the hall for approximately
800 each ,''kyr L'ikcirr'
Enshrinement is scheduled for August 11 and 12, 2000.
4. Traveling Hall: Makes appearances at local,regional and national sites.
5. Fall Activities: ND v. Nebraska will be the largest event this Fall.
6. Operations: A new restaurant "Jersey Mike's" will be operational by the Enshrinement
Festival. Mr. Kish noted that the three (3) projectors are five(5) years old.
John Penney is now working for the NFF with his position now being
vacant.
Council Member Aranowski suggested that Michigan Street be closed for the Nebraska
weekend to permit safe walkways around the College Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Kish stated he
would look into this suggestion. Council Member Aranowski also suggested that the city-owned
garages also be contacted to make sure that the hours of service for each of the Notre Dame home
football weekends be user-friendly. Mr. Kish stated that "Welcome Cornhuskers" banners were
also being looked into by his staff.
Council Member King inquired about the gift shop. Mr. Kish stated that he is discussing
its operation by Follett with Pat McMahon.
Council President Pfeifer suggested that the College Football Hall of Fame consider having.
a corner in the IUSB Bookstore. Mr.Kish stated he would follow-up on that suggestion.
Council Member Aranowski thanked Mr. Kish for accommodating the recent softball teams

which toured the Hall.
Council Member Ujdak inquired about the volunteers. Mr. Kish stated that their is an
annual dinner for them where they receive a certificate and pin for service. Council Member Ujdak
inquired about the maximum seating capacity in the theater and was advised that it is 200.
It was suggested that an extra effort be made for the Enshrinement Festival to accommodate
high school teams by providing extra bleachers,etc perhaps for a nominal fee.
Council Member Aranowski stated that he looks forward to reviewing the Hall's proposed
budget in August.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member
Aranowski adjourned the meeting at 4:50 p.m.
