May 5, 1913 . A petition was filed by the National Lumber Co. in ~cem-ber last for the vacation of the 14-foot alley between Lots 50,51,52 and 53 in Kauffman Place Addition and the Chicago, Inoiana and Southern Rail-way Co. right of way , and by you referred to the Ci~r Engineer from whom I obtained it for inspection. The Harman Coal Co. have employed me to look after the matter. This company is now the owner of these lots and I have had hem sign the pet~tion and I have returned it to he City Enei-neer. I have conferred with J~r. Kauffman who is interested in the lots South of these and the onlF ones that I can see affected by this vacation asked for, and he assures me that the owners of those lots have no objec-tions to the vacation. ~rhe Coal Co. want to put up coal sheds next to the prpperty line of the railroad company, so as to throw the coal from the cars direct into the bins and in order to do that, it is necessai-J to ~acate this alley that 11 betw f.n the lo ts and the right of way of . the railroad company. Your early attention to this matter will Mean much to the Coal Company, as if this alley is vacated , they want to put up the coal sheds before the coal seas on comes on again.
