SBPD Rapid Survey KPI
• Given low use of the Rapid Survey and low response rate (due to distribution challenges), either:
o Reformat and adjust questions to be a satisfaction survey on social media OR
o Conduct a blitz test (give out the QR code cards more widely in PD) and see response rate we
get in a limited time frame
Deep Dive Topic: Community Policing Plan/Community Engagement
Staffing: Continue to address PD staffing as a key challenge and top priority
• Goal: Sustain full staffing (240s) and be able to place individuals into Community Resource Officer
(CRO) roles in Summer/Fall 2023; CROs will serve as a key community + neighborhood touchpoint
Community Engagement:
• Engage the South Bend community regarding SBPD community policing strategies/initiatives
(existing + strategies/initiatives for the future)
o Goal: Have the community help inform SBPD’s community policing strategy + engage people
in a way to co-solve the problems facing the community
• Future Community Survey Question: What is the single thing that makes you feel most unsafe/safe?
Next Steps/Timeline:
• Identify: Who are the key stakeholders to engage in this process?
• Conduct community engagement work during first half of 2023
• Announce the community engagement process at the Q4 Public Safety Update in Jan 2023
Potential Topics next SB Stat Meeting
• Review Rapid Survey Results if we pursue one of the proposed adjustments
• Review status of community engagement for the community policing initiatives
