Stapp Property Owner: Julie and Chris Thornton Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street Local His- toric District Rating: Contributing DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: Tudor Revival house on a 2 storey frame with a rectangular plan. It has a gale roof with molded raking trim covered in asphalt shingles. The body of the house is mainly brick with a herringbone pattern in the front gable. There are shed roof wall dormers at the side. Windows are paired 6 light casement windows with fixed transoms and some fixed sidelights; some are original, some are replacement Pella windows. The windows have brick header course sills. There is a front gable at the entry with a wavy pattern wood siding in the gable. The front porch has tile flooring with wrought iron railings. ALTERATIONS: COA 2008-0415 allowed for roof replacement. COA 2014-0520 allowed for replacement of windows on the north (front) east, northwest facades with Pella ProLine casements and sash windows. APPLICATION ITEMS: “Replace 12 original steel casement windows with Pella Lifestyle Casement Windows.” DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicant has requested approval to: Replace window units with Pella Lifestyle windows in the following locations: two individual casements in the family room, three casements in the dining room, one in the kitchen, two units in the sunroom, and three in upstairs bedrooms. Previous Commission approval allowed the replacement of original casement windows with Pella windows in 2014. Per the applicant, this project is a continuation of the 2014 project. STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: East Wayne Street II. EXISTING STRUCTURES C. WINDOWS AND DOORS Window and door frames are of wood or steel (some casements) or in the case of brick structures, stone sills and brick lintel s. Where metal or vinyl siding has been applied, window trim has been covered. Storm windows are of wood and aluminum. Required Original windows and doors shall be retained including sashes, lintels, sills, shutters, decorative glass, pediments, hoods, and hard- ware. When deteriorated beyond repair, they shall be replaced with units and trim resembling the original Recommended Wood frame storm windows and doors painted to match the original should not be used but should not damage existing frames. I f new sashes or doors are installed, the existing or original materials, design, and hardware should be used. When metal storm doors are used they should be painted, anodized or coated to match the existing. When awnings are used they should be of canvas ma teri- al. New window and doo r openings which would alter the scale and proportion of the building shall not be introduced. Inappropriate new windows and d oor features such as aluminum insulating glass combinations that require removal of the original windows and doors shall not be i n- stalled. Not Recommended Awnings, hoods, and fake shutters made of metal, vinyl, or fiberglass should not be used if they would detract from the exist ing character or appearance of the building SITE VISIT REPORT: N/A STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The proposed project is a continuation of a project initiated and approved by the Commission in 2014.
