Regular Meeting Minutes

Animal Welfare Commission Members Present: Dr. Mariah Covey, Pam Wesolowski, Rebecca Strand, and
Barb Leavell
City Staff Present:Lindsay Cueller -SBARC Shelter Manager, Tom Panowicz-
Attorney for SBARC, and Kylie Connell - Attorney for
AWC
1.The meeting was called to order by Dr. Mariah Covey at 1806 hours.
2.A new member to Animal Welfare Commission was welcomed, Stasia Orlowski, she will be taking the
place of K. Haun.
3.Lindsay Cueller discussed reports from January 2022.
A.The number of animals coming into SBARC was discussed.
1.Many are being surrendered due to economic hardships.
2.It was discussed whether room and board should be charged to those owners who keep
having animals being brought into the shelter.
a.This could help with the costs that the city is having to eat due to owners who will
not keep animals on their property.
b.The new ordinance will need new wording to this effect, outlining when room and
board will be charged, and if owners will need to pay this fee before getting their
animals back.
4.A clean copy of Chapter Five of the ordinance will need to be given to all members so it can be re-
reviewed and updated.
5.The Commission voted for the 2022 Commission. It was a unanimous vote.
A.President will be Dr. M. Covey
B.Vice-President will be P. Wesolowski
C.Secretary will be B. Leavell
6.A new organizational chart was handed out to the Commission with questions and explanations be
tabled to March’s meeting.
7.A motion for 2021 minutes was entered and approved.
8.The next set of hearings and meeting was also scheduled, these are subject to change before the next
meeting.
A.March 3, 2022 will be a regular meeting night starting at 1800 hours.
B.March 3, 2022 a hearing will be scheduled for Case No. 2022-01 starting at 1730 hours.
C.March 3, 2022 a hearing will be scheduled for 1830 hours.
D.March 10, 2022 a hearing will be scheduled for 1800 hours.
