Public Works and Property Vacation Committee

The February 8, 1999 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was
called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 3:30 p.m. in the
Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Coleman, Aranowski, Kelly, Varner,
Sniadecki, and King; Terry Bland, James Voll, Marco Mariani, and Kathleen Cekanski-
Farrand.
Council Member Varner noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 3-99
which is an ordinance to vacate various streets and alleys near High Street, Pennsylvania
Avenue,Broadway Street and Marietta Street.
Marco Mariani, a representative of Planning and Neighborh000d Development, made the
presentation. He noted that the purpose of the vacation is to provide land for
redevelopment of the area with single-family detached housing and the building of a cul-de-
sac. American Home Dreams,Inc. and the Division of Redevelopment are in partnership
on the project.
Dr. Varner noted that the proposed vacation received a favorable recommendation from the
Board of Public Works at its meeting early today (copy attached).
Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council
Member Sniadecki that Bill No. 3-99 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion
passed.
Under miscellaneous business, Dr. Varner reminded all Council Members of this January
13, 1999 Memorandum requesting that each Council Member contact Lew Powell, Director
of Public Works to arrange a time convenient for their individual schedule to discuss public
works concerns or proposed projects.
There being no further business to come before the Committee,the meeting was adjourned
at 3:37 p.m.
