pertaining to Local Historic Landmarks and/or Local Historic Districts.
Regulations pertaining to the Historic Preservation Commission are
found in Chapter 21 (Zoning), South Bend Municipal Code and Chapter
26 of the St. Joseph County Code.
The issuance of this certificate does NOT in any manner, release
the recipient from the responsibility of complying with the requirements
of the zoning ordinances, building codes, safety codes, ADA or other
requirements of the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, the
State of Indiana, or the United States Federal Government.
This certificate is good for one year from the date of issuance and
is effective from the date entered herein. Plans are on file and open for
public inspection at the office of the Historic Preservation Commission of
South Bend and St. Joseph County, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., Suite 1400

Summer Kitchen (Cottage) — Windows 4
Goal:
Restore/replace window frames on the Summer Kitchen
(Cottage).
Rationale:
Deterioration, poor upkeep and weather have resulted in
degradation and gaping openings, and some areas of black
mold and animal access to the structure.

Style discussion:
"Like replacing like" is the guiding principle.
Functionality
At present, some of the windows are not even functional.
Restoration will include functionality.
Proposal
It has been proposed by my contractor to remove,
dismantle, evaluate, replace where necessary (like
materials), and finish/restore what can be perpetuated, and
then reinstall, properly seal and caulk all junctions with the
existing masonry. Care will be used to not disturb the
existing masonry upon window removal. Paint choice will Summer Kitchen (Cottage) building today
be best attempt at match of current shade. Project includes
routine preventive maintenance of cleaning, caulking, and painting of exposed surfaces at soffits and
door frames. Restoration project and painting that can be done in climate controlled setting will begin
in earnest, but remaining exterior painting will occur in the spring.
