Commftttt Ztport: <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> �0 the Common Coutttfl of die tftp of South Oltttb: <br /> The February 24, 1997 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairperson, Councilmember John Broden at 4:30 p.m. <br /> in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Kelly, Aranowski, Pfeifer, Broden, <br /> Varner, Udjak, Coleman, Sniadecki; Mike Beitzinger, Don Porter, Edward Certisimo, <br /> Ann Kolata,Cathy Roemer and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Councilmember Broden noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Resolution <br /> No. 97-7 which is a five(5)year Personal Property Tax Abatement request for the property <br /> located at 3520 Westmoor Street on behalf of AlliedSignal,Inc. <br /> Mr. Mike Beitzinger then provided an overview to tax abatement procedures (copy <br /> attached).. <br /> He then reviewed the report from the Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> dated February 19, 1997 (copy attached) which concluded that the petitioner qualifies for <br /> the five (5) year Personal Property Tax Abatement. The project will create twenty-eight <br /> (28) new permanent full time jobs representing a new annual payroll of one million four <br /> hundred and forty-nine thousand eight hundred and seventy dollars ($1,449,870.00)for an <br /> average salary of$51,781.00 per employee to be hired. Mr Beitzinger also provided a tax <br /> abatement schedule(copy attached). <br /> Mr. Edward Certisimo, the Director of Finance for AlliedSignal, Inc., then reviewed a <br /> seven (7) page handout on the Corporation (copy attached). He noted that there are <br /> currently 850 UAW people on the callback list which would be utilized where required. <br /> In response to questions raised by Councilmember Pfeifer, it was noted that in 1996 <br /> diversity employment results showed that of the 886 employees, 650 were white males, 64 <br /> were black males, 2 were Hispanic males, 14 were Asian males, and 1 was an American <br /> Indian. Of that total there were also 112 women who were white, 37 were black women,4 <br /> were Hispanic women and 2 were of Asian or Pacific Island backgrounds. <br /> In response to a question raised by Councilmember Udjak, it was noted that possible <br /> expansion of the fiscal plant may take place in mid 1997 which is currently being evaluated. <br /> In response to a question raised by Councilmember Varner, it was noted that most of the <br /> the personal property in question will last far beyond the five year personal property <br /> designation which with many of the property items being depreciated over a fifteen (15) <br /> year period. <br /> Councilmember Coleman and Councilmember Broden complimented AlliedSignal,Inc.for <br /> their continuing contribution to the community and their strategic investment to our <br /> community. <br /> • <br />
