Jefferson Blvd. South Bend, IN 46601 hdavis@southbendin.gov; reid@aaklaw.com RE: Request for Four (4) Honorary Street Signs – Harold Brazier Dear Mr. Davis: At its November 22, 2022 meeting, the Board of Public Works approved the application for the temporary placement of honorary signs at the specific request of the family, in the name of Harold Brazier Blvd. at Sample St. & Fellows St., Broadway St. & Fellows St., Ewing Ave. & Fellows St., St. Joseph & Broadway St. Pursuant to the application, a fee of $100 is required for each sign. Currently, there is an outstanding balance of $300. The payment should be made to the City of South Bend. Once this amount has been paid, the City will manufacture and install the signage at the designated locations. Please contact Denise Miller, Customer Service Coordinator, Street Department, at (574) 235-5939 to coordinate the time and placement of the signs. Sincerely, /s/ Theresa Heffner Theresa Heffner, Clerk Enclosures TH/lh INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS DATE: TO: October 4, 2022 Matt Longfellow, Public Works Chris Dressel, Community Investment Gerard Ellis, Fire Department Brad Rohrscheib, Police Department FROM: Theresa Heffner, Clerk SUBJECT: Honorary Street Sign Placement ORIGINAL NAME Fellows St. NEW NAME: Harold Brazier Blvd. CRITERIA FOR HONORARY STREET SIGNAGE IS LISTED IN BPW RESOLUTION NO. 48- 2009. PLEASE INSERT YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE APPROPRIATE FIELD BELOW FOR THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 1.The signage does/does not constitute a public safety hazard or public nuisance. 2.The signage or feature would/would not interfere with normal City operations or services. 3.All application, petition, and fee requirements have been met. PUBLIC WORKS: Engineering will support the requests/recommendations from Traffic & Lighting with regard to Honorary signs. T&L: Regarding honorary street name signs, is there a guideline, an ordinance, or something that applicants need to follow during the application process? It seems odd that someone can request an unlimited length of road, and request an unlimited number of signs. If we don’t, I strongly suggest we come up with requirements that everyone should follow like our permit, handicap, and parking processes. I still think 2 signs, 1 on each end would suffice for this long stretch of raod but will do whatever is decided on. COMMUNITY INVESTMENT: Favorable Recommendation. Since there are several blocks on Fellows St. between Sample St. and Ewing St., can you provide us with more of an exact location. For example, the corner of Fellows St and Haney Ave. Kind regards, Theresa Theresa Heffner Office Administrator, Department of Public Works Clerk to Boards of Public Works and Public Safety (574) 235-9253 theffner@southbendin.gov City of South Bend From:Hillary Horvath To:Theresa Heffner Subject:RE: Recommendation memo for Honorary Street sign Date:Thursday, October 6, 2022 4:05:00 PM Attachments:image001.png image002.png Sounds good, thank you. The second concern is all but one of his obtained signatures are dated in 2020 with only 1 in 2022 not sure if that is an issue but just pointing that out.
