Public Works and Property Vacation Committee

The April 14, 1997 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was
called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 4:15 p.m. in the
Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski, Kelly, Ujdak, Varner,
Coleman, Broden, Pfeifer, and Hosinski, Sniadecki; Larry Spradling, Mr. Roxy, Don
Porter,and Kathy Cekanski-Farrand.
The first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 16-97 which is an alley vacation near
the vicinity of East Monroe St. Mr. Roxy the petitioner made the presentation. He stated
that the annexation is necessary in light of public health and safety concerns.
Mr. Larry Spradling noted that the Board of Public Works requested that a Grant of
Easement be a condition of the proposed vacation. He then presented a copy of the Grant
of Easement which has been recorded in the St.Joseph County's Recorders Office on April
14, 1997 and has been duly signed by James and Barbara Myers (Copy Attached).
Council Member Pfeifer voiced concern with regard to governmental control and cost and
that vacations are more of a community wide issue.
Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion seconded by Council
Member Broden that Bill No. 16-97 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion
passed.
There being no further business to come before the committee the meeting was adjourned at
4:25 p.m.
