HomeMy WebLinkAbout4984-22 Special Resolution Congratulating Jaden Ivey So -II S n.AcEiS irla IV J 0 x ' + -7i /8: 1 BILL NO.22-50 SPECIAL RESOLUTION NO.4984-22 A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA CONGRATULATING JADEN IVEY,ONE OF SOUTH BEND'S NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION'S 2022 FIRST ROUND DRAFT SELECTIONS Jaden Edward Dhananjay Ivey was born in South Bend, Indiana on February 13, 2002; and G Jaden inherited his athletic genes from his grandfather, James Hunter, a former NFL defensive back, his father, Javin Hunter, a former wide receiver for the University of Notre Dame and the NFL, and Niele Ivey, a former basketball star for the University of Notre Dame and the WNBA, who coached at Xavier University, the NBA Memphis Grizzlies and is the current head coach of the Notre Dame women's basketball team; and Oirsaws Jaden's early basketball indoctrination began when he was just months old and attended countless practices and games of Niele's teams and continued at the age of two when Niele gave him a plastic basketball hoop for Christmas; and OIC.i,Jaden attended Marian High School for three years, averaged 25 points a game his junior season, scored 952 career points and committed to playing basketball.for the Purdue Boilermakers; and Off.4, anxious to refine his game and prepare for college basketball, Jaden transferred to national powerhouse LaLumiere High School in LaPorte, Indiana for his senior year; and OXf.us, LaLumiere was ranked as the eighth best high school basketball team in the country when COVID- 19 put an end to the season and Jaden's high school basketball career; and Offavai, Jaden continued his basketball career at Purdue University where, as a freshman, he started 12 games and averaged 184 points a game; and , 6X.C.ii, Jaden exploded in his sophomore season averaging 22 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game; and oilm.i, Jaden also played for the United States at the 2021 FIBA Under-19 World Cup tournament, leading the team to the gold medal and being named to;the all-tournament team; and Gym Jaden elected to take his talents to the National Basketball Association where, on June 23, 2022, Jaden became the first player from the South Bend to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft; and 60‘,014,the South Bend Common Council, along with all other South Bend basketball fans, wish to send Jaden off to Detroit with best wishes for a long and storied career in the NBA. �aa, iNfty6few Ge a msoiv r! *do amnion C 'oaiae? ? ia44 fervid 'Altana* a9flk ag: Section I. The South Bend Common Council thanks Niele for returning to South Bend so area residents could see Jaden's basketball talents on display. Section II. The Common Council congratulates Jaden for being one of the two first round selections from South Bend during the 2022 NBA draft. Section III. The Common Council wishes Jaden all the best during his NBA career and all other future endeavors. Section IV.
