The January 22, 1996 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was
called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 5:00 P.M. in the
Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Varner, Luecke, Kelly, Zakrzewski,
Broden, Washington, Coleman, and Pfeifer; David Troeger, Tasia Jaques, Don Porter,
and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Varner noted that there is an opening for a private citizen member to the
Committee.Any Council Members that have recommendations would be appreciated.
Council Member Varner noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 88-
95 which is a proposed vacation of an alley.
Council Member Varner noted that the Board of Public Works sent an unfavorable
recommendation to the Committee (copy attached) dated January 15, 1996. He noted
however that all bureaus had approved it except for the Division of Engineering which
voiced concern with regarding to the access to the garages located at 1143 Sunnymede and
1203 Sunnymede. Mr.Troeger one of the petitioners made the presentation.He stated that
the proposed vacation is to help increase the security and safety of children in the
neighborhood.He noted that a corollary reason for the proposed vacation was to improve
the aesthetics of the surrounding properties. He then showed numerous photos of the area
to the Committee.
Tasia Jaques one of the affected property owners then spoke in favor of the proposed
vacation.
In response to a question raised by Council Member Luecke, Mr. Troeger stated that he
would be in favor of signing an access agreement in light of the concern raised by the
Division of Engineering.
Following further discussion, Council Member Washington made a motion, seconded by
Council Member Zakrzewski that substitute Bill No. 88-95 be recommended favorably
subject to an access agreement.The motion passed unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was
adjourned at 5:11 P.M.
