The August 26, 1996 meeting of the Utilities Committee was called to order by its Vice
Chairperson, Council Member Charlotte Pfeifer at 4:35 P.M. in the Council informal
meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, Kelly, Varner, Zakrzewski,
Coleman, Broden, Washington, and Pfeifer; Don Porter, Ann Bruneel and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand.
The only item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 71-96 which is a bill to repeal
Ordinance No. 8682-96. Ann Bruneel made the presentation. She added that the
ordinance is necessary in light of the method of opting out of the jurisdiction of the Indiana
Utility Regulatory Commission and the formal procedure to opt back into its jurisdiction.
Further detail was set forth in the cover letter to the proposed bill. She noted that over 500
registered voters were collected within the 60 day remonstrance period.
Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion seconded by Dr. Varner
that Bill No. 71-96 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee the meeting was adjourned
at 4:43 P.M.
