HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-10-95 Community & Economic Development Ctommittuu Z4port: Community and Economic Development Committee �o tbt Common Couittil of tit eitV of Eoutb IBtnb: The April 10, 1995 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 4:15 P.M.in the Council informal meeting room. Persons in attendance included Council Members: Puzzello, Kelly, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Washington, Coleman, Luecke, Duda, and Ladewski; Doug Carpenter, Bill Eagan, Mike Beitzinger, Steve Thompson, Bob Richardson, Robert Bugge, Mitch Heppenheimer,Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Council Member Kelly noted that the only item for the Committee to discuss was Substitute Resolution No. 95-15 which is a tax abatement request for the property located 2740 Viridian. Mr. Mike Beiztinger reviewed the report from the Department of Economic Development and in particular a memorandum dated March 27, 1995. It noted that Test Design Inc.is requesting a 6 year real property abatement based on new manufacturing.He noted that he had been in contact with the State Board as well as the Council Attorney with regard to this amendment. Both entities agreed that it would qualify. He further noted that the operation would create 16 new jobs and maintain 59 permanent jobs. Mr. Robert Bugge noted that the main operation is in West Chester, Pennsylvania. They had over 10 million dollars in sales in South Bend last year and expect to increase the facility by an addition of 1.3 million dollars. Mr. Steve Thompson noted that the firm relocated to South Bend in 1989.They currently have 63 permanent jobs, 37 temporary jobs and plan to create 16 new jobs. He noted that they are currently leasing two other facilities. A video tape was then shown to the Committee giving further information on their operation. Diagrams and a architectural rendering were also shown to the Committee. After much favorable comment, Council Member Puzzello made a motion, seconded by Council Member Washington that Substitute Resolution No. 95-15 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. There being no further business to come before the Committee the meeting was adjourned at 4:35 P.M.
