Community and Economic Development Committee
To the Common Council of the City of South Bend
The March 28 , 1994 meeting of the Community and Economic
Development Committee was called to order by its
Chairperson, Councilmember Roland Kelly, at 4 : 30 p.m. in the
Council Informal Meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke,
Washington, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Coleman, Duda, and
Ladewski; George Herendeen, Mike Beitzinger, Don Porter, and
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda
was to review Resolution No. 94-21 which is a request for a
six (6) year real property tax abatement for the property
located at 840 Prairie Avenue.
Mr. Mike Beitzinger reviewed the report dated March 9 , 1994
from the Community and Economic Development Department(copy
attached) .
It was noted that Matthew R. Dee, is doing business as
United Beverages Inc. The proposed project includes the
construction of an addition to their existing building in
access of 20,000 square feet. The project costs is
$607 , 000 . 00 and would create fifteen (15) new permit jobs in
the first year. He noted that the request qualifies for a
six (6) year real property tax abatement.
Mr. George Herendeen, the attorney for the petitioner, then
made a formal presentation. He provided to the Committee a
hand-out entitled "United Beverage Company of South Bend
Inc. history" (copy attached) .
Following discussion Council member Slavinskas made a
motion, seconded by Council member Ladewski, that Resolution
94-21 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion
passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee
the meeting was adjourned at 4 : 35 p.m.
