HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-14-94 Human Resources & Economic Development QCommitttt 'oort Human Resources and Economic Development Committee Zo OIL tommott touutil of OA OLit,1 of §outb nb The February 14, 1994 meeting of the Human Resources and Economic Development Committee was called to order by its Chairperson, Council member Roland Kelly at 5:15 p.m. in the Council informal meeting room. Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke, Washington, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Coleman, Duda, and Ladewski; Charles P. Rice, Robert Wozny,Don Inks,Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. The first item on the agenda was to review Resolution No. 94-11 addressing the tax abatement request of Automatic Technologies. Mr. Don Inks made the presentation. He reviewed the detailed report from the Community and Economic Development Department (copy attached). He noted that the area in question qualifies for a five (5) year personal property tax abatement. Mr. Jim Gregory than made a further presentation. He provided material on Automatic Technologies Ink (copy attached). 200 jobs are involved as part of the tax abatement for the property located at 36003 Progress Drive. Following further discussion, Council Member Slavinskas made a motion, seconded by Council Member Ladewski, that Resolution No. 94-11 be recommended favorably to council. The motion passed. The Committee than reviewed Resolution No. 94-12 which is a request for a ten year real property tax abatement for the property located at 210 South Michigan. Mr. Don Inks reviewed the report dated January 24, 1994 on the proposed project. It was noted that there would be substantial renovation of the 30,000 square foot plaza building with a total project cost of approximately $525,000.00 (copy attached). Mr. Charlie P. Rice than made the presentation. He noted that the facilities the old annexed to the old St. Joe Bank Building. With the renovation it would enhance an area of the downtown central business area. Following further discussion, Council Member Ladewski made a motion, seconded by Council Member Coleman, that Resolution No. 94-12 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. The Committee then reviewed Resolution No. 94-13 which is a six (6) year real property tax abatement request for Lot Four (4) in the Crossroad Industrial Complex. Mr. Don Inks reviewed the report dated January 31, 1994 that found that petition qualifies for a six (6) real property tax abatement request. Mr. Bob Wozny made a brief presentation. He noted that he represents M/W Partnership. The petitioners in the business of creating and printing mailing lists and labels for mailing and shipping throughout the country. The projected cost of the building is approximately $485,000.00 and between 10 to 15 new permanent jobs would be created. February 14, 1994 Human Resources and Economic Development Committee Page 2 Following discussion, Council Member Slavinskas made a motion, seconded by Council Member Ladewski, that Resolution No. 94-13 be recommended favorably to council. The motion passed.
