The October 10, 1994 meeting of the Zoning and Annexation Committee was called
to order by its Vice Chairperson, Council Member Cleo Washington at 4:20 P.M. in the
Council informal meeting room.
It was noted that the Chairperson, Council Member Lee Slavinskas was out of
town.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, Washington, Kelly,
Puzzello,Zakrzewski, Coleman,Duda and Ladewski; Robert Nagle, Al Jacobs, Robert L.
Cole,Mike Beitzinger,Terry Bland, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Washington noted that the first item to be review was Resolution
No. 94-95 which is a petition of the South Bend Board of Zoning Appeals for the property
located at 606-612 West LaSalle.
Mr. Robert Nagle of the Building Department gave background information. He
noted that the petition was filed by Berean Seventh-Day Church and showed a site plan of
the area . He noted that the Board of Zoning Appeals sends this request to the Common
Council with a favorable recommendation by a vote of 4 to 0.He also noted that there was
no remonstrance at the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting.
Mr. Robert L. Cole representing the church then made the presentation. He noted
that this would eliminate parking in front of homes in the area. Thirty (30)parking spaces
would be created. Mr. L. Jacobs also spoke in favor of the proposed variance.
Council Member noted that he had worshiped at this Church and that it is family
orientated.He stated that the 30 parking spaces would be beneficial to the neighborhood.
Following further discussion, Council Member Duda made a motion, seconded by
Council Member Zakrzewski, that resolution No. 95-95 be recommended favorably to
Council.The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee the meeting was
adjourned at 4:30 P.M.
