At its August 23, 2022 meeting, the Board of Public Works awarded the above referenced
quotation to you in the amount of $235 per lineal foot (unit price for 12-inch water main
installation).
Please forward the following documents in one submittal by September 13, 2022 to my
attention for Board of Public Works approval at lhensley@southbendin.gov :
1) One (1) signed original of the Contract (enclosed); and
2) Certificate of Insurance naming the City of South Bend as an additional insured.

The Board of Public Works opened and read quotes at the July 26, 2022 Board of Public Works
meeting for the subject project. One quotation was received and the quotes ranked as follows:

$235.00 per lineal foot
Assessment
The quotation documents submitted by Selge Construction company was the lone, responsive,
responsible bidder. The quotation documents included a list of MBE and WBE companies that are
available to participate in the project, and based on the quotations for materials, the contractor will
be able to meet or exceed all MBE and WBE participation goals. All critical items were submitted.
Based on current budget for the work, the unit price can accommodate about approximately 630
lineal feet of water main installation.
Recommendation – Award Quotation
The Division of Engineering and Division of Utilities recommend award of the contract for Project
No. 122-052 Auten Road Water Main Replacement to the lowest, responsive responsible bidder,
Selge Construction Company, Inc. (Niles, Michigan) for the unit price quotation of $235.00 per
lineal foot for the installation of 12-inch ductile iron water main.
The current budget for the work is $149,900.00. Work is intended to repair and replace a section of
water main along Auten Road where multiple repairs have occurred in recent years prior to St.
Joseph County completing a new section of their trail network between Laurel Road and Kenilworth.
Attached, herein, is a copy of the documents for Board of Public Works signature.

PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT
This Agreement is made and entered into this 23rd Day of August, 2022, by and between Selge
Construction Co., Inc., 2833 South 11th St., Niles, MI 49120 (the “Contractor”), and the Board of
Public Works (the "Board”).
The Contractor covenants and agrees to make the following improvement, as fully set out in the
Request for Quotations, Standard Specifications, Special Provisions, Plans, and Bid Proposals, all
of which are set forth as a part of this Contract, for:
PROJECT NO. 122-052
DESCRIPTION: AUTEN ROAD WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT
COMPLETION DATE: SEE SPECIFICATIONS
AMOUNT: $235 PER LINEAL FOOT (UNIT PRICE FOR 12-INCH WATER
MAIN INSTALLATION)
FUNDING: PR-00018246
The unit prices for this improvement were those prices as received and accepted by the Board on
the 26th Day of July, 2022.
The Contractor further agrees to notify the assigned Engineer when this improvement is
completed. This notification shall be in the form of a Project Completion Affidavit, signed by the
Contractor. Upon final acceptance of the improvement by the Engineer, the Contractor’s final
estimate will be presented to the Board for final Payment with one (1) copy of the Project
Completion Affidavit and one (1) copy of a Waiver of Lien.
Each of the Parties, by signing below, represents and warrants to the other Party that he/she/it has
the authority to bind the named person or entity to this Agreement.
