ZONING AND VACATION COMMITTEE
To the Common Council of the City of South Bend
The March 8, 1993 meeting of the Zoning and Vacation
Committee was called to order by its' Chairperson, Council
Member Lee Slavinskas at 5: 15 p.m. in the Council Informal
Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke,
Washington, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Duda,
and Ladewski; Bob Nagle, Don Porter, Pastor Miller, and
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Slavinskas noted that the purpose of the
meeting was to review Resolution No. 93-17 which would
approve a petition for a special exception for the
properties located at 647 Diamond and 656 Diamond.
Pastor Miller with the Faith Apostolic Temple made the
presentation. He stated that he would like to expand his
facility and that the parishioners do not want to relocate
despite the high crime area. He believes that they are
providing a positive effect. The special exception would
allow off-street parking changes.
Mr. Robert Nagle reviewed the favorable report from the
Board of Zoning Appeals made at its' meeting on February 18,
1993 . He noted that the petitioner would utilize commercial
property for additional parking at Dale's Service Center and
that the parking spaces would be reduced from 63 to 32 . He
also noted that many parishioners walk to the facility, and
that there were no remonstrators.
In response to a question raised by Council President
Luecke, it was noted that the parking lots in question would
be paved and that there would be appropriate landscaping and
screening.
Following further discussion, Council Member Puzzello made a
motion seconded by Council Member Washington that Resolution
No. 93-17 be recommended favorably to Council . The motion
passed.
There being no further business to come before the
Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 5: 25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Lee Slavinskas, Chairperson
Zoning and Vacation Committee
