HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-28-93 Zoning & Vacation Committee Repot ZONING AND VACATION COMMITTEE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: The June 28, 1993, meeting of the Zoning and Vacation Committee was called to order by its' Chairperson, Council Member Lee Slavinskas, at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Duda, Ladewski; Attorney John Ford, John Byorni, Don Porter and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Council Member; Slavinskas noted that the first item to be reviewed was Bill No. 43-93 which would vacate property running betweep Notre Dame Avenue and Frances Street. Mr. Ford, the Attorney for the Petitioner, St. Joseph Medical Center, Inc. , noted that the purpose of the vacation is to increase and improve the parking areas serving the medical facility. Mr. Ford showed various 8 X 10 pictures of the area in question as well as the site plan for the area. The Council Attorney noted that Mr. Ford had met with Mary Hall Mueller, Council Member Puzzello, Carl Littrell and members of the Engineering Department to discuss this matter. As a result of that meeting, a new Substitute Bill (marked Final Substitute Bill No. 43-93) was filed by Mr. Ford setting forth new language in Sections V and VI. Council Member Zakrzewski questioned whether the Petitioner would maintain the alleys after they are hard surfaced and was advised that the hospital would maintain the alleys as part of their dverall maintenance of the parking lot. Council President Luecke questioned drainage and Mr. Byorni noted that it would be subject to a final site plan when the rezoning comes'. before the Council. Council Member, Ladewski stated that the parking is needed and necessary and that he was very familiar with the area. Zoning and Vacation June 28, 1993 Page 2 Following further discussion, Council Member Puzzello made a motion, seconded by Council Member Slavinskas, that Final Substitute Bill No. 43-93 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
