Regulations pertaining to the Historic Preservation Commission are
found in Chapter 21 (Zoning), South Bend Municipal Code and Chapter
26 of the St. Joseph County Code.
The issuance of this certificate does NOT in any manner, release
the recipient from the responsibility of complying with the requirements
of the zoning ordinances, building codes, safety codes, ADA or other
requirements of the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, the
State of Indiana, or the United States Federal Government.
This certificate is good for one year from the date of issuance and
is effective from the date entered herein. Plans are on file and open for
public inspection at the office of the Historic Preservation Commission of
South Bend and St. Joseph County, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., Suite 1400
S, South Bend, Indiana, during normal business hours.

Noteworthy design considerations and reuse
• Existing red brick from small walls and pavers will be re-used for
the ‘soldier’ course around the new grey paver bricks
• Old textured concrete blocks salvaged from the old carriage house
in 2016 will be re-used as a veneer for the sides of the gate
• The new cedar gate will be custom built to resemble the old garage
door on the former carriage house to partially restore the view
from the street
• The existing concrete slab from the carriage house will be covered
with new paving stones but not otherwise disturbed
• None of the existing trees will be disturbed
• None of the existing walls will be disturbed
• The new pergola will be inset 5-feet from the property lines
