Persons in attendance included Council Members Duda,Luecke, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, and Niezgodski, Sandy Combs, Roman Piasecki, Charlotte Huddleston, Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Council Member Luecke noted that local ordinance requires that the committee interview all prospective applicants to the Redevelopment Commission. Council Member Luecke noted that Sandy Combs, Roman Piasecki, and Charlotte Huddleston, have applied for the two positions which are open. • The committee first interviewed Sandy Combs. He noted that he is a trained accountant and has been involved in management for the past fifteen years. He is the Chief Financial Officer for a small development corporation and has been in such position for eighteen months. Prior to that he was an accounting manager at Memorial Hospital and previously has worked with the Ford Motor Company. He noted that he is completing his seventh year on the Redevelopment Commission. In response to a question raised with regard to a potential conflict of interest,he noted that no conflict has arisen to date, but if one would he would abstain at that time. In response to a question raised by Council Member Slavinskas, he noted that he was fully supportive of Project 2010, West Washington, and further development of the Downtown. He believes that development should be more aggressive and would be receptive to incentives for the Scottsdale Mall area. In response to a question raised by Council Member Luecke he noted that individuals living within older neighborhoods should be involved in the process and that perhaps additional information should be given to the Commission to avoid conflicts between the Redevelopment Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission. Several members of the Committee thanked Mr. Combs for his past participation and hard work on the Redevelopment Commission. The Committee then interviewed Mr. Roman Piasecki. He noted that he is completing his tenth year on the Redevelopment Commission. He worked for over thirty years as an outside salesman with Sears Roebuck, and Company in the air conditioning, plumbing, heating areas. After that he was in private business and currently owns seven properties. He is past president of the St. Vincent Depaul Society and is involved with the South Bend Housing Development Corporation, The Studebaker Museum, the Center City Associates. Council President Niezgodski praised Mr. Piasecki as being a dedicated public servant. Following several questions by the committee, many members of the committee thanked Mr. Piasecki for his work on the commission. The Committee then interviewed Mrs. Charlotte Huddleston. She noted that she is good at working on committees, is very vocal, enjoys planning, and especially enjoys setting goals and meeting objectives. She is a licensed LPN and has had a license for over twenty years. Currently she is employed by Insource and will be training individuals to work with special children and families. The position requires a lot of public speaking and direct involvement with the public. She noted that she will have a flexible schedule and will use comp time,if selected to serve on the Commission. Council President Niezgodski noted that he had received very favorable comments from many individuals living in the St. Stanislaus area,regarding Mrs. Huddleston. It was also noted that she is a volunteer on many organizations including the Red Cross. She stated that she lives in the LaSalle Park area on Liberty Street and takes pride in the area. She sees a need to have further development along and in the South Shore area and the Southeast side as well as the Studebaker Corridor. Following the interview with Mrs. Huddleston, the Committee then discussed, in detail, their recommendations to the full Council on the proposed appointees. The Committee recommended that Mr. Roman Piasecki and Charlotte Huddleston be recommended to the full Council to be the next appointments by the Council to the Redevelopment Commission. There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting was adjourned at 3:55 p.m. Respectfully submitted.
