HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-25-89 Human Resources & Economic Development OIumml#trn Evart HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Ulu the Mammon Ulounril of tip (lug of Oust!! limb The April 25, 1989 meeting of the Human Resources and Economic Development Committee was called to order by its Chair Person Council Member Steve Luecke at 4:25 p.m. in the Council informal meeting room. Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, Niezgodski, Soderberg, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Voorde, Duda, and Coleman; Sherry Shane, members of the news media, David Norris, Larry Koepfle, Howard Dukes, Margot Doyle (citizen member) , Howard Bessire, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Council Member Luecke noted that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss Resolution No. 82-42 which would authorize the Mayor to submit an application to the Indiana Department of Commerce for the State Industrial Development Grant Fund. Sherry L. Shane, an Economic Development Specialist with the Department of Economic Development presented the proposed Resolution. She noted that the Resolution was for Communication... Test Design, Inc: It is a twelve year old electronics, engineering and service firm which began in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She noted that it has purchased a lot in the airport industrial park and proposes to build a 20, 000 square foot building. The total cost of the infrastructure is approximately $26,700. 00 consisting of the construction of an access road and extension of water lines, storm sewers, and sanitary sewer lines to the project site. Eighteen new jobs will be added. She noted that the City of South Bend has received a tentative approval from the Indiana Department of Commerce for a grant in the amount of $13, 000. 00 for the needed infrastructure. It was noted that the State requirement conditions approval on a match locally. The local match will come from the City of South Bend's Water Department and the Industrial Foundation. Mr. Howard Bessire of the Industrial Foundation confirmed that they would be participating in the local match. Following discussion, Council Member Slavinskas seconded by Council Member Puzzello to recommend Resolution No. 89-42 favorably to Council. The motion passed.
