Minutes - February 8, 1988

Mary Allen (Executive Director, Human Rights Commission) , Margaret Fosmoe
(South Bend Tribune)
The Chairman called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. Mary Allen presented
Bills 3-88 and 4-88, which provide federal funding from HUD and the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission for the Human Rights Commission. She noted
that these funds could not be used elsewhere and that the number of case being
processed was increasing despite a staff shortage.
Upon a motion by Mr. Slavinskas, seconded by Mr. Coleman, both bills were sent
to Council with a favorable recommendation.
The Chairman stated that he had not yet appointed citizen representatives to
the committee and that he would welcome suggestions for the positions. He said
that he would call a meeting to review tax abatement guidelines and procedures
as soon as the State Legislature finished any actions on the matter.
The meeting ad:iourned at 5:30 p.m.
