PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
01v it7c mommon Qiounril of Hie Qitiy of ifout1t $end:
The September 28 , 1987 meeting of the Public Works Committee
was called to order by its Chairman, Councilman Thomas
Zakrzewski at 4 : 30 p .m. in the Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Councilmen : Barcome, Zakrzewski,
Voorde, Puzzello , Serge, Braboy, and Beck; James Wensits, Michael
Vance, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Councilman Zakrzewski noted that the purpose of the meeting was
to review Bill No. 88-87 which is a bill to appropriate three-
hundred and two thousand dollars ($302 , 000.00) from the Federal
•
Assistance Grant Fund commonly referred to as the General
Revenue Sharing Trust Fund to the Street Department MVH Fund to
defray costs of the Street Department.
Mr. Vance stated that the moneys are necessary for temporary •
wages and salarys. He' noted that October 1 , is the federal
deadline to encumber federal revenue sharing. In light of the
fact that gasoline ' taxes anticipated are running at a consider-
ably lower level than anticipated by the State Tax Board, there
is at least a three-hundred thousand dollar ($300, 000. 00) short
fall this year. He noted that there probably will be a financial
problem in 1988 ,. however he will not have specifics until after •
the field hearings are completed.
In response to a question from Councilman Barcome, Mr. Vance
noted that he has not been officially notified of the reduced
gasoline tax income as of this date . He also added that if the
transfer would not take place that the program within the
Street Department would have to be cut back Beverly.
Following discussion, Councilman Puzzello made a motion second-
ed by Councilman Taylor to recommend Bill No . 88-87 favorably
to council. The motion passed.
Therebeing no further business to come before the Committee,
the meeting was adjourned at 4 :40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Councilman Thomas Zakrzewski, Chairman
