First District
We all know and understand the countless contributions women make in every field
Henry Davis,Jr. and every single day.Women's History Month is dedicated to recognizing those
Second District contributions.
Sharon L. McBride This proposed resolution provides a brief history of Women's History month and
'I'hird District identifies the theme of"Women Providing Healing,Promoting Hope"for 2022.

Fourth District I believe that the Council should commemorate Women's History Month to pay
tribute to the contributions of women across the world,including those of our own
Eli Watt Council members.
Filth District
I ask that this resolution be scheduled for discussion by the Community Relations
Sheila Nie,-godski Standing Committee at its March 14, 2022,meeting and later that evening at the full
Sixth District Council meeting.

RESOLUTION NO. CITY CLERK,SOUTH BEND, IN
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMEMORATING MARCH 2O22 AS
WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
WHEREAS, the first International Women's Day was a global celebration of the
economic, political and social achievements of women was celebrated on March 8, 1911; and
WHEREAS,the United Nations has sponsored International Women's Day since 1975
when it adopted a resolution"To recognize the fact that securing peace and social progress and
the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms require the active participation,
equality and development of women; and to acknowledge the contribution of women to the
strengthening of international peace and security"; and
WHEREAS, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring
March 8 as National Women's History Week in 1980; and
WHEREAS,the United States Congress expanded the week to the entire month of
March in 1987; and
WHEREAS,the United States and several other countries around the world recently
celebrated International Women's Day or March 8; and
WHEREAS,the theme for 2022, as designated by the National Women's History
Alliance, is "Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope", which is "both a tribute to the
ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a
recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and
hope throughout history; and
WHEREAS, current events establish, more than ever, the need for women to continue to
provide healing and promote hope.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IS RESOLVED,by the Common Council of the City of South
Bend, Indiana, as follows:
Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana recognizes and
appreciates the countless contributions women make in all areas of life, not only during the
month of March,but also during each and every day.
Section II. The Common Council also recognizes and appreciates the five women
members of this Council for their contributions to the well-being and progress of the City.
Section III.This resolution shall become effective upon the date of passage.
