CITY ANNOUNCES TRASH PICKUP SCHEDULE FOR
MARTIN LUTHER KING,JR_ DAY
SOUTH BEND—Due to the recognition of the Martin Luther King,Jr. holiday on Monday,
January 21, 2013, the City of South Bend announces that regular trash collection will occur one
day late throughout next week. While Solid Waste crews normally do not collect trash on Friday,
they will do so on Friday, January 25, 2013 to keep pickup on track for the week. Regularly
scheduled pick-up will resume on Monday, January 28, 2013.
SCHEDULE:
Monday, January 21:NO PICKUP
Tuesday,January 22: Normal Monday Pickup
Wednesday, January 23:Normal Tuesday Pickup
Thursday, January 24: Normal Wednesday Pickup
Friday,January 25: Normal Thursday Pickup
Residents are also reminded that yard waste is still collected in the winter months. Residents can
call into the office and request a pick-up. Collection occurs one day a week, separate from the
regular trash pickup day. Yard waste should be bagged and placed curbside for collection. All
yard waste is recycled at the City of South Bend's Organic Resource Facility. The City

encourages the use of paper bags as an alternative to plastic bags for yard waste. This will
result in significantly lower tipping fees and will help reduce toxic waste in landfills.
