The December 8, 1986 meeting of the Zoning and Vacation Committee was
called to order by its chairman, John Voorde at 5:20 p.m. in the Council
informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Councilmen: Serge, Beck, Puzzello,
Taylor, Zakrzewski, Barcome, and Paszek; Mr. Gaylen Allsop, members of the
news media and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Councilman Voorde noted that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss
Bill No. 111-86 which would rezone the property located at 2501 Mishawaka
Avenue in the City of South Bend. Councilman Voorde noted that the Area
Plan Commission gave a favorable recommendation to the proposed rezoning at
its meeting of November 18, 1986.
Mr. Gaylen Allsop noted that the present location is currently vacant
and that it would be a retail center housing either a bookstore or a dress
shop. He noted that the proposed use would not need tax abatement or bonds.
He further noted that South Bend contractors would be used during the
construction and twelve new jobs would be created.
Councilman Beck, the District Councilman noted that she has not
received any complaints with regard to the proposed rezoning.
Following further discussion, Councilman Serge made a motion seconded
by Councilman Puzzello that Bill No. 111-86 go to Council. favorably. The
motion passed unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the
meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
