The May 12, 1986 meeting of the Parks Committee was called to order
by its chairman Councilman James Barcome at 3 :45 p.m. in the Council
informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Councilman Serge, Beck, Braboy, Paszek,
Puzzell, Zakrzewski, Voorde, and Barcome; James Seitz, Carl. Stevens, and
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Councilman Barcome noted that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss Bill No. 50-86 which would appropriate $82,500 from the Park
Maintenance Fund to Account No, 427 Motor Equipment for the purchase of
various Park Department Vehicles.
Mr. James Seitz then introduced Mr. Carl Stevens, Assistant Superintendent
who review the bill for the Committee.
Mr. Stevens noted that the $82,500 would purchase five pickup trucks,
one step van, one van and one car. He noted that these vehicles were in
"very poor condition because of age and mileage. " It was further noted.
that the letter accompanying the bill dated April 18th and signed by Mr.
. Seitz set forth the year of the vehicle, type of vehicle and the mileage..
It was further noted that the oldest vehicle was a 1968- pickup truck and
the vehicle with the most mileage was . a pickup truck with approximately
169 ,000 miles.
Following discussion by the Committee,. Councilman Paszek made a
motion seconded by Councilman Zakrzewski that Bill No. 50-86 go to Council
favorably. The motion passed unanimously..
Councilman Serge questioned whether bids had been taken and he was
informed that the legal department was considering whether they could be
"piggybacked"with a bid taken earlier by the Board of Public Works. Councilman
Serge urged that they City buy American made vehicles is at all. possible.
There being no further business to come before the Committee the
meeting was adjourned at 3: 55 p.m.
