The April 17, 1984 meeting of the Park and Recreation Committee
was called to order by its Chairman, Councilman Serge at 5 : 05 p.m. in the
Council Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge,- Beck, Brabby,
Puzzello, Taylor, Crone, Paszek, and Zakrzewski, James Seitz, Jim Wensits
and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,
Councilman Serge noted that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss Bill No. 41784 which would appropriate fund received from the U.S.
Department of Interior in the- amount of $76 ,812.50 to the Park District
Bond Construction Fund.
Mr. Seitz explained that the grant would help finance the .
construction of the walkways and lighting under the West Ehd of the
Jefferson Street Bridge and the walkways and lighting in the Howard Park
area. The work has been completed and now the money is being drawn down
for final payment.
Councilman Serge,. and Councilman Crone had several questions
regarding the East Race. Mr. Seitz noted that the contractor has been paid
all but 5% of his contract, and there is still a bond on the project.
He noted that as of this date they do not know what has cause the problem
and that a temporary dike is presently being built. Mr. Serge noted that
- the City had sent several persons to Munich, Germany to see how the
Olypmic Raceway over there was built. Mr. Seitz said that the City is
watching the problem closely and in his opinion the Park Department should
not have to pay any money to correct the problem. The formal dedication
will be June 29th.

Following further discussion Councilman Beck made a motion
seconded by Councilman Puzzello that Bill No 41-84 go to Council favorably.
The motion passed unanimously. There being no further business to come
before the Committee,the meeting was adjourned at 5: 10 p.m.
