HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-16-84 Personnel & Finance Cuttunt tin Evart • We Up Miniuwn fount% of Up (dam of tomtit( Snith PERSONNEL AND FINANCE COMMITTEE The August 16, 1984 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee was called to order by its chairman, Councilman Ann Puzzello at 2:00 p.m. Persons in attendance included Councilmen: Beck, Puzzello and Serge, Joe Black, Michael Vance, Dave Sypniewski, Tom Gargis, Services Division Clerk, Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand and members of the news media. Councilman Puzzello noted that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss possible cuts in the Police Budget for 1985. Councilman Puzzello suggested cutting $22,000 from Line Item #120, and $11,000 from Line Item #1300, and two requests for $31,500 from Line Item #110.09. Captain Gargis noted that Line Item #130 Extra and Overtime is used for communications, vacation relief, sick day pay back, and civilian overtime. He noted that 40 people could retire today from the force and the Department likes to keep the recruits as high as possible. Mike Vance noted that the department is, based on a manning level and that when one retires his salary could be transferred to the recruit line item. Councilman Serge questioned Line Item x-'-255 "Other Material" , Line Item #357 "Ammunition", and Joe 'Black. questioned Line Item #360 "Buildings and Structural Repairs". It was noted that repairs are needed for the SOS facility on Lincolnway as well as at the Olive Street Station. Following further discussion, Councilman Serge made a motion, seconded by Councilman Beck to cut a total of $64,500 from the following Police Budget Line Items 110. 09 Recruits $31,500 120 Salary/Wages , Temp. 22, 000 130 Extra/Overtime 11,000 The motion passed unanimously.
