The October 10, 1983 meeting of the Public Works Committee was called
to order by its, chairman, Councilman Raymond Zielinski at 5:10 p.m. in the
Council Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Zielinski, -
Harris, Voorde, Crone; John Leszczynski, Jim Wensits, and Kathleen Cekanski-
Farrand.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Bill No. 111-83 and 112-83.
Councilman Zielinski called upon the City Engineer to update the Committee.
Mr. Zielinski stated that Bill No. 111-83 would appropriate $70,000 from
the local Road and Street Fund for the Logan Street improvement project.
This would be for the second phase of the three-phas project. Fifteen percent
of the cost would be by South Bend, fifteen percent would be by Mishawaka,
and seventy percent by the Federal government through the Federal Aid Urban
Funds administered through MACOG. The street would be an "S" curve, would
have signalization and storm sewers, and would be widened. Upon further
discussion Councilman Harris made a motion seconded by Councilman Serge that
the Bill go to Council favorably. The motion passed unanimously.
• Bill 112-83 would appropriate $65, 000 from the LRSA Funds for various
traffic signal improvements. It would involve a flow oriented system based
on warrants. It would involve Ireland Road at Main Street, Michigan Street
and St. Joseph Street. Following discussion by the Committee., Councilman
Harris made . a .motion seconded by Councilman Serge that Bill No. 112-83 go to
Council favorably. The motion passed unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting
was adjourned at 5 :25 p.m.
