HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-24-83 Human Resources & Economic Development Oh&main Erpnri • en tilt Gammon Olounrii of tfit,(Q{ty of Onutti limo: HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE • The October 24 , 1933 meeting of the Human Resources and Economic Development Committee was called to order by its Chairman, Councilman Robert Taylor at 4 :00 p.m. in the Council informal meeting room. Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Harris, Crone, Voorde, Taylor, and Beck, Colleen Rosenfeld, Ann Kolata, Jon Hunt, Paul Falduto, Jim Wensits, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Councilman Taylor noted that the purpose of the meeting was to continue the discussion of the 1984 Community Development Program, . Colleen Rosenfeld, Director of Community Development, then highlighted the proposed statement of Community Development objectives and uses (copy. attached) . Approximately $42,000 is left in the unspecified local option. Councilman Serge inquired into the proposed northwest center project and was again informed that the participants have not provided the requested information. Councilman Voorde-'updated the Committee on Zoie Smith's request made at a Park Board meeting regarding a new senior citizen`s center. Mrs. Smith thought that there was federal program which provided 90% funding, however Jon Hunt stated that he is unaware of such funding and that the Howard Park Senior Citizens.', Center is presently meeting such needs. The Committee then reviewed the proposed statement dated October 20, 1983 which will be published in the South Bend Tribune on October 24th. The final statement must be prepared by November 9th with a resolution approving the final statement coming before the Council on November 14th. • Councilman Harris inquired into the request of La Casa deAmistad Center'; proposal for $21,400, for translation services and pamphlets. The deadline for comments is October 31st. Jon Hunt informed the Committee that the City Administration will• be requesting the Council to strike from the ;Agenda Resolution 9-B which would have authorized the City to submit an application for an urban development action grant. Councilman Crone had several questions regarding Resolution 9A which relates to the Center City Housing Project. This is an inducement resolution and is totally separate from the East Bank Project. Councilman Voorde noted that T. Brooks Brademas has received certifica- tion of his development corporation and asked for an update on . the City's status. The application is in Washington, D.C. and is third in line to be reviewed. There should be a further update by the end of October. IwfC ►w[.• /V•L1.Xlw•Co. Page 2.
