The January 11, 1982 meeting of the Public Works Committee was called
to order by its chairman, Councilman Joseph T. Serge. at 6 :15 p.m. in the
council meeting room.
Persons in attendance included the following: Councilmen Szymkowiak,
McGann, Zielinski, and Serge; Mr. John Schalliol and Kathleen Cekanski-
'Farrand.. Councilman Serge announced that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss Bill No. 136-81, the vacation of Lathrop Street.
Mr. John Schalliol of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority explained
that the vacation was necessary for the development and expansion of the
airport. He showed the Committee a map of the proposed vacation. A new
Fixed Base Operator facilities will be constructed thus adding additional
jobs and enhancing the services of the airport facility. He urged the
Committee to make a favorable recommendation.
Mr. Serge indicated his approval of the proposed vacation, and brought
to the Committee 's attention the letter he had received from a
remonstrator in the area.
Following further discussion. the Committee unamimously recommended
that Bill No. 136-81 go to Council favorably. There being no further business
to come before the Committee , the meeting was adjourned at 6: 30 p.m.
