The January 12, 1981. meeting of the.-Public Safety Committee was called
to order by its" Chariman, Councilman Robert Taylor at 6:20 p.m. , in the
Council meeting room.
Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Taylor, McGann, Szymkowiak,
Voorde, Crone, Serge and Dombrowski; City Attorney Hill; Deputy City
Attorney Eugenia Schwartz; and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney.
Councilman Taylor announced that the purpose of the meeting was to
review Bill No. 146-80 dealing with Smoke Detectors. He then asked the
Council Attorney to review the background of the proposed bill.
The Committee was informed that the amendments would close certain
problem areas which have arisen since the original smoke detector ordinance
was passed last spring. An amended bill was then passed out to the
Committee members. The amended bill was the result of meetings which the
Council Attorney had with Mrs. Schwartz of the Legal Department. Mrs.
Schwartz then highlighted the proposed changes.
The- Committee was advised to. substitute the amended bill for the
original bill on file with the City Clerk.
Following discussion by the Committee, Councilman McGann made a
motion to accept the amended version and to recommend it favorably to
the Council. Councilman Dombrowski seconded the motion. • The Committee
voted unanimously on the motion.
There being no further business to come before the Committee,
Councilman Serge made a motion to 'adjourn, seconded by. Councilman Dombrowski.
The meeting was adjourned at 6: 35 p.m. .
