The June 4 , 1981 meeting of the Utilities Committee was called to
order at 5':35 p.m. in the informal meeting room by its Chairman,Councilman
Raymond C. Zielinski.
Persons in attendance included: Councilmen: Serge, Symkowiak, McGann,
Voorde, Crone, Zielinski, and Beck; Joih.:T. Hunt, Citizen member Alex Deranek,
Jim Wensits of the Tribune, Mike Vance and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,
Councilman Zielinski called the meeting to discuss Bill No. 49-81 '
regarding the design of a well field and treatment facility which was
referred to the Utilities Committee at the last Council meeting.
Mike Vance, Director of Utilities explained that the Bill was to
cover the engineering services contract with Lawson-Fisher Associates.
Specifically they would be looking for new well fields and studying
current well sites to see where additional pumpage could be added to get
good quality water. He noted that they were trying to avoid areas which
had high iron contents.
Two sites are presently under consideration: (1) an area north of
Chippewa and west of Main Street, and (2) The Rum Village pumping site.
Mr. Vance noted that by closing down the Olive Street pumping station,
the City was loosing 18 million gallons per day.
The $28., 000 would pay for the engineering study only, and it would
address low water pressure problems in such areas as the Airport Industrial
Park. He noted that "our engineers are 98% sure that the Olive wells can
be cleaned up" , and hopefully completed within an 18 month period.
Following several questions from the Councilmen, Councilman Zielinski
made a motion to recommend Bill No. 49-81 favorably to the Council,
seconded by Councilman Symkowiak. The motion passed unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the
meeting was adjourned at 6: 00 p.m.:
