HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-27-04 Public Works and Property Vacation Public Works and Property Vacation Committee The September 27 , 2004 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was called to order by its Chairperson Council Member David Varner at 3:30 pm in the Council Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter, Kelly, Puzzello, Varner, Kuspa, Coleman and White; City Clerk John Voorde, City Engineer Carl Littrell, Jack Dillon, Ken Fedder, Phil Facenda, Jr., Gladys Kopola, Bill SchallioL Jack Dillon, Community & Economic Development Executive Director Sharon Kendall, John Stakowitz and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney. Dr. Varner noted that a quorum of the Committee does not exist, however the Committee would meet to receive information. Dr. Varner called for a presentation on Bill No. 50-04 which is a request to vacate the first alley north of Jefferson Boulevard between 36th Street to the west and the north/south alley between Jefferson.Boulevard and Marshall Avenue to the east. Dr. Varner noted that the Board of Public Safety reviewed the request and sends it to the Council with a favorable recommendation September 8,2004 Report attached). John Stakowitz, the petitioner, made the presentation. He noted that it is being proposed because of the unsafe conditions which currently exist and the ongoing noise problems. Persons use the area to avoid the light on Jefferson. He noted that he plans to pave the area in question and that he is aware of the possibility of a cul-de-sac. City Engineer Carl Littrell spoke in favor of the proposed vacation. Dr. Varner noted that since a quorum was not present, that it would be reported without recommendation to the Common Council. Bill Schalliol of Community and Economic Development then asked that Bill No. 59-04 which is a vacation request for a portion of the east side of Chapin Street north of Sample Street to United Drive and approximately 720' of United Drive running east from Chapin Street be continued until the Council meeting of October 1 lth. There being no further business to come before the Committee, Dr. Varner adjourned the meeting at 3:39 pm.
