I. SPECIAL MEETING September 17, 2021
The Board of Public Safety met in a Special Meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021,
with Board Members Luther Taylor, Melissa Colpitts, and Darryl Heller present. Also present was
Attorney Danielle Weiss and Board Clerk Anne Fuchs. Board Member Dan Jones was not present.
The meeting was held at the Luther Taylor Sr. Fire Training Center, 710 E. Sample St. South Bend,
Indiana and streamed virtually to the public via Microsoft Teams at the following link:

Board President Luther Taylor welcomed the public, called roll, and confirmed the presence of
Board Members.
A.FIRE DEPARTMENT
1.APPROVE HIRING OF PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTERS
CHRISTIAN STEVENS
HANEEF BONDS
HENRY NUNEZ
MATTHEW APPLEGATE
ZACHARY KANCZUZEWSKI
KEVIN WEINBURG
DEVON FARRER
ANDREA TUTTLE
Assistant Chief Brandon Roark requested the Board to approve the hiring of the above eight
(8) firefighters on a probationary basis. Assistant Chief Roark noted each firefighter has
completed the recruit academy successfully and has acquired the State certification required
of them including Firefighter 1 and 2, and EMT. Assistant Chief Roark stated these eight
recruits are the top 1% of the applicants. Therefore, upon a motion by Melissa Colpitts,
seconded by Darryl Heller and carried by a roll call, the Board of Safety approved the hiring
of the above listed probationary Firefighters.
2.SWEARING IN OF PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTERS
City Clerk Dawn Jones administered the oath, and Chief Carl Buchanon followed with the
Badge pinning.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Board, upon a motion by Melissa Colpitts and a
second by Darryl Heller, carried by roll call, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
