The new central building for Derek D. Dieter the Fire Department and the renovation and enlargement of the Police First District Department have gone on for most of the year. The official open house for the Charlotte D. Pfeifer Central Fire Station was on October 1. Second District On January 12,the Council passed bill 102-03,which amended the alarm system bill passed in 2003. Roland Kelly On January 26,the Council passed special resolution 04-08, commending Third District Derek Dieter for his years on the SWAT team. On March 8,the Council passed bill 12-04, which addressed stun gun Ann Puzzello regulations. John Voorde allowed himself to shot by a TASER to show that their Fourth District were no lasting effects. David Varner In March, the Council passed bill 17-04, setting the 1St class patrolmen's pay at Fifth District $40,000 per year. On April 4,the Council passed bill21-04,which would increase the Indiana Ervin Kuspa River Rescue Fund by$16,000. Sixth District On April 26, Councilmember Dieter introduced bill 24-04, concerning loud noises and increased fines,which was passed by the Council. A special Sean Coleman resolution 04-41 honored fallen police officers and named Law Enforcement At Large Memorial Week. Resolution 04-45 named Kathleen Cekanski Farrand as our Al "Buddy" Kirsits negotiator for 2004 firefighter negotiations. At Large During the months of June and July,the negotiations took place with an Karen L. White administrative team,headed by Chuck Leone,joined with a Council team headed At Large by Kathleen Cekanski Farrand. The Firefighters ratified the agreement and it passed the Council on October 13 as resolution 04-101. Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand Council Attorney On April 21,the Council and Clerk's office were invited to learn more about what firefighters do by taking part in a fire school. We donned the heavy uniform and went up the ladder to the roof, where we were to attack the roof with an ax. Some attendees had trouble getting up the ladder with all the heavy gear. However, Mrs. Cekanski Farrand really gave the roof a workout. Later we retired for a much needed lunch. Ann Puzzello is the Council's representative Roland Kelly for 2004. The team for the police has met several times, but the firefighter team Vice-President has not met since negotiations. Sean Coleman On November 10,the Council and Clerk's office was invited back to Fire Chairperson, Committee School to see a flash over. We again donned the heavy gear that would not let of the Whole any skin be exposed and saw a wonderous sight. It was beautiful and very Derek D. Dieter dangerous, had it been real. First District On September 7,the committee met to discuss the problem of wild student Charlotte D. Pfeifer parties, mostly in the 4th District. The neighbors involved, administrators and Second District Councilmembers attended. This is an ongoing problem. On October 25,the Committee met to get a presentation concerning CALEA Roland Kelly from Sgt. Dave Newton. He told us about working toward an accreditation that Third District requires a very professional department and the development of community Ann Puzzello review policies. Fourth District On November 22, after it has been continues once,bill 70-04 was discussed and brought to a vote. It would have made one member of the new 5 member Public David Varner Safety Board a former public safety officer. It also would have brought the Fifth District Council more knowledge concerning the selection of Board members. The bill was defeated by a 5-4 vote.
