A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF SOUTH
BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA REGARDING THE USE OF ENERGY
CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY TECHNOLOGIES IN HISTORIC
LANDMARK BUILDINGS AND DISTRICTS
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph
County (the "Commission") is open to and encouraging of the use of appropriate energy
conservation and sustainability technologies and methods in historic landmark buildings and
districts which are in harmony with existing standards and guidelines for such structures; and
WHEREAS, the Commission wishes to encourage all owners or potential owners of
properties designated as historic landmarks or located in a historic district to contact the
Commission if they are considering or interested in the use of energy conservation and
sustainability technologies and methods for such properties; and
WHEREAS, the Commission is committed to working with owners and potential owners
of properties designated as historic landmarks or located in a historic district to determine the
most appropriate energy conservation and sustainability methods for each individual property;
and
WHEREAS, the Commission will consider applications for Certificates of
Appropriateness for energy conservation and sustainability technologies and methods
individually, with due regard to the circumstances and specifications of each specific property, in
the same manner as the Commission considers applications for Certificates of Appropriateness
for all proposed alterations.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION
COMMISSION OF SOUTH BEND AND ST. JOSEPH COUNTY AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Historic Preservation Commission is open to and encouraging of the
use of appropriate energy conservation and sustainability technologies and methods in historic
landmark buildings and districts which methods and technologies are in harmony with existing
standards and guidelines for such structures, and encourages all owners or potential owners of
such properties interested in such technologies and methods to contact the Commission.
SECTION 2. The Commission is committed to working with owners of such properties
to determine the best fit for each property, and to consider each application for a Certificate of
Appropriateness for such technologies and methods on an individual basis, in the same manner
as all other applications for Certificates of Appropriateness are evaluated and considered.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
