In 1891 , Christopher Fassnacht sold the home and this lot, Bank Out Lot 116, to F.J. Lewis Meyer and wife for $2600. There were restrictive covenants placed upon the property stating that no home should be constucted of less than $3000 in value, and it must be built within one year of the date of the sale. The first Listing for 417 West Navarre Street appears in 1891 , as the corner of West Navarre Street and Portage Avenue. F.J. Lewis Meyer was a native of Ontario,Canada born on November 2, 1860. His father was Rev. R. F. Meyer, a leading member of the Evangelical Association. In 1874, the Meyer family moved to Michigan, and at age sixteen he taught public schools in Michigan. Mr. Meyer came to South Bend in 1879. He taught public schools in South Bend, and was principal of Lafayette School from 1884-1887. He attended law school at Northwestern University and upon being admitted to the bar, returned to South Bend. He was a highly esteemed local attorney. He served as the attorney for the Indiana, Illinois, Iowa Railway,. General Counsel for the Buff and Blue Oolitic Stone Company,and the Crafton Stone Company.
