The May 27, 2003 meeting of the Information and Technology Committee was called to order by
its Chairperson, Council Member Karl King at 4:48 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Kelly, White, Pfeifer Kuspa, Varner, Kirsits
and King; City Controller Rick 011ett, Public Works Director Gary Gilot; Terry Bland of the
§OUtb Vizra g tbUUt and Council Attorney Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member King noted that several weeks ago he provided a copy of the survey which the
City Administration has utilized to provide an assessment of the City's information and technology
systems which serve the various Departments and Bureaus. He noted that there appears to be a
consensus among the Council Members that the City needs to provide more availability for
outreach services.
Council Member King then provided a Memorandum attached to a 15-page questionnaire (copy
attached) to address the City Website Capabilities. He stated that he will provide this questionnaire
to the entire Council, three (3) members of the City Clerk's Office and the Council Attorney for
their input. He noted that every function addressed exists either on the city's website or other city
websites which he has reviewed. He requested that the Council complete the questionnaire as soon
as possible so that the results could be discussed on June 9th. He would then provide a report to
the City Controller.
In response to a question from the Council Attorney, Council Member King noted that some of the
best city websites include Indianapolis' which has repeatedly won awards and also Henderson,
Nevada's. He noted that access to GIS information and video clips are part of their features.
Council Member King stated that he would put together the top ten-twelve city websites which he
considers the best and share this information with the Council. He noted that Washington, D.C.'s
website is a 3rd generation website.
Several Council Members thanked Council Member King for his leadership on this topic.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member King adjourned
the meeting at 4:57 p.m.
