MAYOR BUTTIGIEG SETTLES WAGER WITH MAYOR OF TUSCALOOSA
Mayors Made Friendly Wager over ND-Alabama Game
SOUTH BEND Mayor Pete Buttigieg will send boxes of South Bend Chocolate Company
chocolates and Claeys Chocolate Charlie to Mayor Walt Maddox in Tuscaloosa,Alabama on
Wednesday, two days after the Crimson Tide defeated the Fighting Irish in the BCS National
Championship Game in Miami.
"Mayor Walt sent me a gracious note after the game and relayed his respect for Notre Dame and
the South Bend community," said Mayor Buttigieg. "While we wish the outcome was different, I
congratulate Alabama and the City of Tuscaloosa. I hope they enjoy a taste of South Bend as
they savor this victory."
"It's a lot of fun when the two greatest college football programs in the history of the game
compete for a national championship," said Mayor Maddox. "In Tuscaloosa,Notre Dame has a
tremendous amount of respect for all its traditions and successes."
As part of the wager,the mayors agreed to donate to the winning side's charity of choice. Mayor
Buttigieg will send a personal check of$100 to the City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund.
