HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-03 Informal Meeting SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL APRIL 14, 2003 INFORMAL MEETING The April 14, 2003 Informal Meeting of the South Bend Common Council was called to order by Council President Karen L. White at 6:45 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. The following Councilmembers were in attendance: James Aranowski 1St District Charlotte Pfeifer 2nd District Roland Kelly 3rd District Karl King 4t'District Chairperson, Committee of the Whole David Varner 5th District Sean Coleman At-Large Vice-President Al "Buddy"Kirsits At-Large Karen L. White At-Large President The following Councilmember was absent: Ervin Kuspa 6th District Also present were: Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand Council Attorney Loretta J. Duda City Clerk Sandra M. Parmerlee Chief Deputy City Clerk Janice I. Talboom Deputy City Clerk Council President White reviewed the Council agenda noting the following information: 1. Under"Special Business" a motion needs to be made to move the second meeting in May to Tuesday, May 27, 2003 due to the Memorial Day holiday. 2. Bill No. 23-03 - A motion is needed to continue this bill until the May 27, 2003 meeting and to send it to the Health and Public Safety Committee. 3. Bill No. 24-03 -After the Public Hearing, a short recess will be needed in order for high school principals to pick up their packets from the City Clerk. 4. Bill No. 03-37 -A motion is needed to accept the substitute version of this bill. SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL APRIL 14, 2003 INFORMAL MEETING 5. Bill No. 25-03 - A motion is needed to send this bill to the Area Plan Commission and to set it for Second Reading and Public Hearing on June 9, 2003 with Third Reading on June 23, 2003. 6. Bill No. 22-03 - A motion is needed to strike this bill from consideration at the request of the petitioner. 7. President White advised that she will announce the next upcoming lecture in regards to the City Plan. 8. President White advised that the Council will receive an update on the Weed and Seed Program and a presentation on the south side by Mr. Bill Schalliol, at their Informal Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2003. 9. Councilmember Coleman advised that he held a Parks,Recreation,Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee meeting last week to share information regarding a major capital improvement in the parks. He noted that it is expected that a brief presentation will be made to the Park Board on April 21st and he expects to call a committee meeting for April 28th to discuss this matter in more detail. He stated that he believes everyone got copies of the minutes of the meeting and he would be happy to discuss it with anyone who is interested.
