The June 24, 2002 committee meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation was called to
order by its Chairperson Council Member David Varner at 4:13 pm in the Council Informal
Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Kelly, Varner, Pfeifer, Aranowski, King,
Ujdak, Coleman, White and Kirsits; Citizen Member Khadijah Muhammad, Director of Public
Works Gary Gilot, Bob Case, Thomas Veldman, Terry Bland of the groutb Viatti grtbui u,
and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney.
Council Member Varner noted that James A. Masters, the attorney for the Petitioner on Bill No.
40-02 sent a letter dated July 24, 2002 requesting that this Bill be continued to the July 8, 2002
meeting(letter attached).
Council Member Varner then called for a presentation on Bill No. 41-02 which would vacate a
portion of Vorden Court in the BW Business Park Subdivision. Dr. Varner noted that the Board
of Public Works has sent a favorable recommendation on the proposed vacation(copy attached).
Mr. Thomas Veldman,President of BW Business Park, LLC made the presentation. Mr. Veldman
stated that the vacation is necessary to facilitate the economic development of the Blackthorn West
Business Park in order to benefit the general public and stimulate growth. He showed a drawing
of the area in question.
Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council Member
King that Bill No.41-02 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the joint Committees, Dr. Varner adjourned the
meeting at 4:15 p.m.
