The November 25, 2002, Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee meeting
was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Sean Coleman at 3:50 p.m. in the Council
Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski,Pfeifer, Kelly, King, Varner, White,
Kirsits, Kuspa and Coleman; Mayor Stephen Luecke, Moms Performing Arts Center Executive
Director Dennis J. Andres, Department of Community and Economic Development Director Jon
Hunt, Jim Frick, Beth Leonard, Terry Bland of the 'out j Ott t'ihntttt, and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney.
Council Member Coleman noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 93-02
which would appropriate$83,900 from the Morris Performing Arts Center Improvement Fund
Mr. Dennis J. Andres, Executive Director of the Morns Performing Arts Center made the
presentation. He noted that the monies would be spent on seven(7) projects,namely:
1. $38,500 on an exterior dumpster/compactor.
2. $17,000 on cameras and addition security equipment.
3. $16,700 for awnings and canopies.
4. $6,000 for upgrading the telephone system.
5. $2,500 for locks.
6. $2,350 for restoration of the gold leaf on the ceiling of the Grand Lobby.
7. $850 for a pallet truck.
Ne noted that there is a$1.00 surcharge per ticket which is the source of funds for Fund#416.
Council Member White inquired how much money had been paid into the fund this year and was
advised that approximately $120,000 to date has been deposited. It was also noted that the time
has expired with regard to the gold leaf and therefore the cost would be paid from this fund.
Council Member King then made a motion, seconded by Council Member Aranowski that Bill No.
93-02 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
Mayor Luecke then asked Mr. Andres if the number 25 had any special meaning. Mr. Andres
stated that not only is it the Century Center's 25th anniversary, but that the Morris Performing Arts
Center is listed as 25 in America in the number of tickets sold, with Atlanta, Detroit and NY's
Radio City being the top three.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Coleman
adjourned the meeting at 3:59 p.m.
